Wow! Who knew the anti-gun people would be so good at shooting from the hip?

But then I never thought that a liberal from Berkeley like me would ever own a gun. As Mr. Canepa said, this isn't about gun ownership, it's about a gun range at PML.

The people who have posted here have raised a number of valid concerns. And even though I would love to see a gun range here, I also have some concerns, mostly around safety at the range itself.

But before any more of us go off half-cocked, let's wait until there is an actual proposal. Let the Board know what your concerns are so they can be addressed.

  • Noise. I don't know where the proposed range would be located, do you? There seems to be lots of room in units 14 and 16 where it wouldn't be in anybody's back yard. Noise may not be an issue at all.

  • Cost. I don't know what the proposed range would cost PML, do you? Seems a little premature to be concerned about the cost.

  • Fire Danger. A properly designed, well run gun range would be far safer than folks just going into the National Forest and shooting. (I could be wrong, but I don't believe the Mariposa fire was caused be someone shooting in an organized and managed range.) (If you're concerned about fire danger, we have far more serious problems here. Get the Cal Fire booklet and clean up your lot. Then start lobbying your neighbors to do the same.)

Oh, and this is not somebody's whim. I personally have been lobbying to get a gun range here for several years. I'm sure there must be others.

Anyhow, do let the Board know what your concerns are, but don't condemn the plan before there even IS a plan.
