THE TROUT ARE BACK Anglers and HIGHWAY 120 and 108 Corridor Businesses can Rejoice! After the recent shutdown of the Moccasin Creek Fish Hatchery, The Trout are Back and the hatchery is up and running again producing plantable trout. As you read this article the water will be back on and the trout on their way back from San Joaquin Fish Hatchery. On January 29th. I attended the Stake holders meeting at Hetch Hetchy Administration building in Moccasin along with your 4th District Supervisor John Gray and Supervisor Teri Murrison. Thanks to their efforts and the cooperation from the California Department of Fish and Game, San Francisco Power & Water, and Hetch Hetchy Power management, a plan is in place to save our fish. According to Tom Grove, Fish Hatchery Manager II: All Juvenile fish are coming back. All Lakes in our planting region including Cherry Lake are fully stocked and we are targeting opening day with about 60,000 lbs or approximately 120,000 fish to be planted in the rivers, streams and creeks…After that stocking will continue every other week or at least 1 time per month. The next major shut down is the year 2013 according to San Francisco Water and Power and will be for approximately 90 days. The Supervisors, Moccasin Creek Fish Hatchery, California Dept. of Fish & Game, Hetch Hetchy Power Management and the stakeholders have agreed to keep the next shutdown at the front of the table and are dedicated to having a plan in place by that time to continue Moccasin Creek Fish Hatchery operation's during the shutdown. |
