Please do not sign the petitions without knowing some facts. This recall election is expensive, according to the Union Democrat around $9,000.

The removal of Ryan Dutton from his teaching position at Tioga High School appears to be the tipping point in this recall. Young, athletic, and good-looking, he was attractive to teenagers, but it was a unanimous decision of the school board to put him on administrative leave. The board felt there was just cause for dismissal and surely understood the legal ramification of their decision.

Should this recall go to conclusion, what would be the make-up of the new school board? Would they be able to assure that all children in this district receive a good education? A school board is NOT a representative body. Would they be mature, unbiased decision makers or a group of cronies without diverse experience? Would this new school board be solely representatives of parents, and teachers or impartial individuals whose obligation is to the citizens of this community to assure that all students in this district receive the best education possible? Would this new board be able to make unpopular decisions when faced with truth and logic, and the law?

Please do not sign the recall petitions without carefully considering the ultimate outcome, and expense to the district. Sooner or later, all of the present school board members will be up for re-election. At a regular election, the recall proponents will be able to assure that candidates of their choice are elected in a customary, traditional election.
